I Brought Back A
Little Vegas With Me
Some Very Warm Weather
And Little Else…

Fellow Lions,

Not much to report this month, March came in like a Lion and it sure is going out like a lamb! All of the Lions Community Building sub-contractors were on vacation. We are waiting on the plumbing fixtures, the countertops and a few minor items before we are ready for use. Lions Doro, Boedeker and me attended the Lannon Village Park Committee meeting on March 26, 2007. Our Building Committee’s recommendations were presented to the Village’s leadership. They seemed pleased with our information. Thanks Lions Ehley, S. Burkhalter, Boedeker, Doro and Spranger for serving on this Committee. We should be ready for the start of baseball 2007. Starting this year the Village Park Budget will fund the porta-potties. We are getting close to the dedication and the party. When this project is completed it will be time for our Club to “Take a Break.” A few of our members may help get the outfield fence ad program started. We do not anticipate this to become a Lannon Lions Club fundraiser.

April is traditionally OFFICER NOMINATION MONTH. Fortunately, all of our membership turned in their MEMBER SURVEYS. This will make the nominating committees’ job much easier. (And Lion President Doro won’t have to call you personally for it, if he hasn’t already!!!!!!) If the Lannon Lions want to go anywhere, we need people to guide the way.

The PREZ SEZ
Wow another high temperature record was broken this week. It may be time to shave off my winter coat! Relax Lion Miller there are still a few icebergs floating around on the lake. I promise you we will go fishing very soon. Lion Spranger came back from Las Vegas with only a half a pair of pants, lucky he has great legs. (He should have used them to run away from the slot machines.) As you can see there is not much going on in the world of the Lannon Lions. Welcome Lion Rohr, our newest member. It is with much regret that I must inform the Club members who are not already aware of this; Lion Jim Reimer has slipped into a coma. The prognosis is unknown. Please keep him and Michelle and his family in your prayers.

Yours in Lionism,

Lion President Jim Doro

Business Meeting: March 5, 2007 Lannon Village Hall

Wednesday, March 7th, 2007

Lion President Doro called the meeting to order at 7:02 P.M.
Secretary’s Report: Lion Boedeker offered a motion to accept the secretary’s minutes as recorded. A second was made by Lion R. Reimer. Motion carried.
Treasurer’s Report: Lion Spranger clarified that the park donation was from the Flame Tamers, (not D. Martin). Lion Spranger moved to accept the report as corrected, with a second offered by Lion Ernst. Motion carried.
Lion News: Lion President Doro shared the following:

  • B.O.L.D. sent a thank you for our donation presented at the Convention.
  • Denise and Mark Decket expressed their thanks for the Entertainment book we donated for the Convention raffle.
  • The Allenton Lions have invited us to attend their 25th Anniversary Celebration to be held April 14th at the Ranch in Hartford.
  • Raffle tickets are available after today’s meeting for “Lion Project for Canine Companions”

Committee Reports:
Park Committee:
Lions Doro, Spranger and Boedeker are working on acquiring new tables and 72 chairs for the new building. The Village is agreeable to working with us on the cost and the disposition of the existing pieces. Carpet has been installed and looks great. We are still in need of a gas stove.
State Bowling: Lion President Doro will contact Men. Falls and Butler for fill-ins for bowling.
Pancake Breakfast: Lion President Doro recommended that we start selling place mat ad space now. Lion Spagl voiced some concern about starting this early. Generally this is a March and April task.

Old Business:
Eight interest forms for Officer positions and Committee Chair positions have been returned. Every member is expected to turn in a form. These forms will be kept on file for future reference.

The club does not have a formal application form for high school seniors to submit for scholarship consideration. This may change.

New Business:
“Youth Education and Safety” (Y.E.S.) has solicited us for a donation. It was agreed that our charities for the year have been decided.

Several members met recently at the new building to establish rental fees and hours of operation. Lion President Doro shared the details with the group. It was decided that smoking will NOT be allowed. Nothing has been decided yet on who will run the concession stand. The Stonemen will continue to do their own “concessions”. The Village sets the usage fees for the ball fields. Schneider Field is expected to be in use almost every evening. If the Lions chose to use the building on a game might, parking could be problematic. In the near future, we will likely sell advertising on fence signs. The proceeds can be used to replace some of the lights which are quite old. Lion President Doro will be meeting again soon with the Village Board.

Mark your calendars:
Monday March 19th is a mandatory dinner meeting. We will induct a new member at this meeting.

At 7:30, Lion Boedeker motioned to adjourn the meeting. It was followed with a second by Lion Spagl. Motion carried.

Respectfully submitted,
Lion Secretary Sandy Burkhalter
