I Brought Back A
Little Vegas With Me
Some Very Warm Weather
And Little Else…

Fellow Lions,

Not much to report this month, March came in like a Lion and it sure is going out like a lamb! All of the Lions Community Building sub-contractors were on vacation. We are waiting on the plumbing fixtures, the countertops and a few minor items before we are ready for use. Lions Doro, Boedeker and me attended the Lannon Village Park Committee meeting on March 26, 2007. Our Building Committee’s recommendations were presented to the Village’s leadership. They seemed pleased with our information. Thanks Lions Ehley, S. Burkhalter, Boedeker, Doro and Spranger for serving on this Committee. We should be ready for the start of baseball 2007. Starting this year the Village Park Budget will fund the porta-potties. We are getting close to the dedication and the party. When this project is completed it will be time for our Club to “Take a Break.” A few of our members may help get the outfield fence ad program started. We do not anticipate this to become a Lannon Lions Club fundraiser.

April is traditionally OFFICER NOMINATION MONTH. Fortunately, all of our membership turned in their MEMBER SURVEYS. This will make the nominating committees’ job much easier. (And Lion President Doro won’t have to call you personally for it, if he hasn’t already!!!!!!) If the Lannon Lions want to go anywhere, we need people to guide the way.

The PREZ SEZ
Wow another high temperature record was broken this week. It may be time to shave off my winter coat! Relax Lion Miller there are still a few icebergs floating around on the lake. I promise you we will go fishing very soon. Lion Spranger came back from Las Vegas with only a half a pair of pants, lucky he has great legs. (He should have used them to run away from the slot machines.) As you can see there is not much going on in the world of the Lannon Lions. Welcome Lion Rohr, our newest member. It is with much regret that I must inform the Club members who are not already aware of this; Lion Jim Reimer has slipped into a coma. The prognosis is unknown. Please keep him and Michelle and his family in your prayers.

Yours in Lionism,

Lion President Jim Doro

Christmas Came Early
Boedekers & Sprangers = 7
Ernsts & Spagle =0
Bowling was Fun!

Fellow Lions,

A club that plays together stays together. It’s not just the social aspect of Lionism that’s important. It has a lot to do with having a common goal to give to others. I know there was an embarrassing amount of gifts under our Christmas tree this year. But it’s not the same spirit of giving that you feel when handing the victims of a house fire a check, giving a deserving student a scholarship, or donating money for a community project. I encourage you to attend our Jan. 2, 2007 Board meeting. We plan to hold it in the new building at Schneider Field. Wear a pair of jeans because it will be dusty. There are no restroom facilities so plan accordingly. Come and see what our influence, hard work, and funds have been used for.
Lion S. Burkhalter ordered a Lions International Sign several months ago, I have often thought about getting the ladder out and hanging it on the front of the building. The thought of doing that alone or with only one other person helping to get it centered just didn’t seem right. It needs to be a bit more symbolic than that. I’ve been called a dreamer, and for that reason I still pinch myself to make sure I’m awake when I see our new home as a work in progress.

The Prez Sez

Happy New Year, welcome to 2007, ready or not here it comes, kinda like your tax bill. The vision of the Lannon Lions, with the help of some fine people in the community, will make the Community Center-Concession Stand a reality for this year’s baseball season. The project has taken a little longer to complete than we originally thought, but when you see it, you will realize that it was worth the wait. Another goal would be to increase our membership by two or three to help fill the room up.
Good health to all of you in 2007, especially Lion Jim Reimer who has been hospitalized recently. Thanks for all of your help in 2006! (Lion Ernst you may want to see someone about that bowling elbow, before they kick you off your team!)

Yours in Lionism,

Lion President Jim Doro

RE:MARK

I spend way too much time with Lion Ehley’s wife, La Vern, so I did not get the member profile or committee and officer survey finished. Darlene, you are a Saint (or just crazy)

The Last Holiday
Of Summer 2006
And the Last Packer
Pre-season Game YIKES!

Fellow Lions,

It’s hard to believe that we are two months into the new Lion year. The Budget Committee met and put together a slimmed down version of 2006-2007. The profits were not what we have come to expect from the Beef & Bird Tent, it was bound to happen sooner or later. A few frustrating things took place and I’m sure that the heat made them seem worse. Lion Pritzlaff and I did poorly with the rib sandwiches. Thanks to Perks for “holding the bag” while we sold off excess product, a small profit will be made. (Less than $100.00) But believe me, if you were not in this Club in the early 80’s you know NOTHING about hard times. Olde Quarry Days nearly broke the Lannon Lions. Fortunately our current Village President is generous. His contributions have become our second best fund-raiser. Speaking of raising money, the Entertainment Books have arrived. I don’t know how many we were shipped. I will bring a few boxes to the Board Meeting. Every year we discuss giving up this project. For the new members that sell them, it is $500-$600 we wouldn’t have.

A brief park building update, we have likely lost one of our major cement donors. Their construction project has run into a few costly snags. We are looking at taking a different approach. Hopefully a concrete answer will be available by the meeting night HA HA.

The Prez Sez

Boy, that was a fast HOT summer. We finished our two big fund raisers and we can relax a little bit. Now is the time to bring in new members so we do not have to work to hard next year. So…just ask someone if they would like to be a Lannon Lion! Thanks for all of the help last summer. We had a great night for our mini-golf outing. Thank you, Lion Jim and Cindy Pritzlaff for catering. I hope to see you at the Monday, September 11, 2006 Board meeting at the park.

Yours in Lionism,
Lion President Jim Doro
